The End of Summer Post

It is nearly one a.m., and after catching up on some overdue emails and work, I can almost hear my bed calling to me...

It is the time again, when the summer is coming to a close, where I am to imprint some wisdom that I have gained throughout my time here. Truthfully, I don't think I got any wiser...I probably just got about 5 shades darker, and just a bit lazier. Emphasis on "a bit".

The summer, like all summers, flew past like a fly buzzing for freedom. I think this was actually one of my best summers thus far (comparable to Summer of '69...oh wait, I wasn't alive then). No really, it was super great! Many, many summer activities were completed, such as playing volleyball in the sun, sliding down the slides at Splashdown waterpark, screaming our heads off at Playland, and eating as if the world's entire supply for sugar is running out at PNE. Oh, and I also got to dance. I mean, what else can I ask for? :)

Like mentioned before, I did get a bit lazier during the summer, so I will be happily trotting off to my bed now, and will spare you the details of my summer in this post. You must read the next post though, or else I will set my dog Toto to attack you (with his remaining 4 teeth). Grrr!

Goodnight!

Rediscovering my creative side

So it appears that all my recent posts have been poems and a story! I have been writing more recently, probably because I am less stressed out during the summer, have more time, and have a LOT more energy. So ta-da...I hope you like it!

A few updates:

  1. Hong Kong was absolutely AMAZING. The reason my blog was (temporarily) abandoned was because Jordan and I started our own combined, amazing, breathtaking, THRILLING, ACTION-PACKED – wait for it – HONG KONG EXCHANGE TRIP BLOG! View it here if you have a load of time on your hands and need something to do :P
  2. Summer in Vancouver is always amazing. I have been busy with a part time job, volunteering, working out, hanging out with friends and of course, DANCING! If you too, want to enjoy some awesome ballroom dancing, come by Robson Square (at Robson and Howe) on Friday nights! There is a free lesson every week starting at 8pm, and performances by local dancers at 9pm and 10pm! Did I mention it’s free (yay!)
  3. I have been discovering lots of new music! Also, I have expanded the genres of music I listen to…I have even been listening to some R&B/Hiphop (only when I workout though, haha). But most of all, I have been listening to some more indie music. All this new music discovering means that more poor people on the road have to listen to me singing and belching out the tunes in the car (yes, it is possible to BELCH songs out) :P good thing I don’t do that on the bus…
  4. I bought new shoes yesterday. Just thought I would put that out there. Truthfully, my old ones were starting to smell (…only a bit though, ok?!) and I needed some nice flats that were comfortable to walk in. So I got some new Champion flats that have a good insole and my feet are now tres happy.
  5. The sun is out, the sky is blue, it’s beautiful, and so are you! (from the Beatles' song Hey Prudence!). Hope you all have a great rest of week!

Weave

The dunes in the sand
perfectly carved
swirling, concentric
A flawless circle

A potter’s art
perfectly carved
grains moulded into one
Forever chained, entangled

Your divine face
perfectly carved
a forbidden painting
Etched, woven into my mind

Are you real?
Perhaps a figure from my imagination
arising from fairy dust, smoke and chaos,
from the unfathomable depths
of my chained and intrigued heart…
released from my desires

To enchant me

This is a poem I wrote a few years ago...I recently rediscovered it while sorting through my files!

Love in the Sun

The gentle breeze sways the tree branches

As if tickling them

A child’s laughter rings through the air

Giggles, as he speeds down the red slide

A wisp of hair catches on her lips

She brushes it away, turning her head

Shyly

He looks down at her

Her golden lashes sparkling in the sun

The heat warms them

Bathes them in light

and finally…

Their hands touch

A rippling pulse flows through them

A desiring, but calm electricity

as they sit

Just another day in the sun

Story

The monster was coming.
It found them, again, this time, in the form of the sea, the sea that was once pristine, calm and soothing. But now, it was a possessed,  raging monster, poised to style strike at its every move, it's target determinedly set.

The girl watched, aghast yet somewhat enthralled, as the gigantic, thrashing waves came barreling towards her. The sea had no face, but she could see and feel it's angry snarl, hungry for revenge and life. But no, she thought, there had to be a warning, a sign, he promised -
Then the girl realized that Thunder had betrayed them.

Her body sprang into action. The girl pulled the small pendant off her neck, and put it in her mouth. She felt a warmth spotted across her body, and she began to emit a high pitched noise - a beautiful note that engulfed her town, a note that carried a dangerous and forbidding message - run away.

As expected, the noble soldiers jumped out from the castle walls, their weapons poised, their armor ready for battle. But there was no battle, no creature to be fought, only their inevitable death awaiting them in the soulless depth of the sea.
Yet the soldiers stood their ground. They knew what they had to do. Some dropped their weapons, began to move their arms in a rhythmic motion, readying themselves to fight the sea to their death. Some turned and set fire to the walls; the fire can help fend off  the sea.

The sound has stopped; it was enough to warn the villagers to take action. The girl swallowed the pendant, and felt her body further radiate heat, and become hotter and hotter - every part of her body felt like bursting into flames until -
She was on fire. Tall, licking flames that were nearly as tall as the waves. She set fire into the entire earth around her, and the shore became a flaming wall, another barrier to the inhabitants of the village. She could hear the monster inside the sea snarl; they had given it an unexpected obstacle. But the girl knew it  wouldn't last long...It was only to delay the monster, to give time for her village to run,  to hide in their barricades.

Her fire, and the soldiers' fire, were battling against the sea, pushing it and holding it at  shore. The other soldiers were tiring quickly; they tried to force the sea to move back,  against its will, away from them. But it was too powerful. It raged on, its desire greater and more powerful than anything they could produce. The sea broke their barricade and rushed to them, victorious.

The last thing the girl heard, before she was engulfed in the darkness, was the monster, laughing at them in her high, cackling voice.

*kind of random, but this is just part of a story I've been workout on :-)

Exciting Times!

Whew! I just finished my 3 exams in a row yesterday. It is such a relief. I still have one more exam left, but it's not until next Monday, so I have lots of time to study! I still have to be super effective and productive though, since I still got lots of stuff to do, and I'll be going to Toronto this weekend!
Now that I'm almost out of the woods, I can properly look forward to what is coming up. Here are some things that I am excited about!!!:

  1. Seeing Jordan this weekend, and going to his family's holiday party! Yay holiday party and Christmas!
  2. Going back to Vancouver to see my family, Toto and my friends :) I miss them!!
  3. Christmas. Although my family doesn't really celebrate it, it's still a nice time of year. I hope it snows!
  4. Jordan coming to Vancouver! Yay! Jordan will be visiting Vancouver from Jan 9 to 15th! I'll be doing lots of planning during the break to make sure his visit is super exciting and fun and full of fooooooood! :D It's to prime both of us for...
  5. ASIA TRIP! We will visiting..
    1. Taiwan to see my family! We'll be arriving in Taiwan on Jan 16th, and my dad will be picking us up. He's got accomodations lined up for us, and we'll be relying on him to bring us around and visit my grandma. It definitely will be interesting to visit Taiwan after so many years...
    2. Singapore! We're planning a trip to Singapore because we want to travel around Asia more. We were deciding between Bangkok and Singapore, but it seemed easier to book flights in and out of Singapore so we decided on it instead. We'll be spending about 4-5 days there. We still need to look up some attractions and what to do etc there!
    3. Hong Kong for SCHOOL! We'll be in Hong Kong for 4 months, doing school at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The campus looks beautiful. And the food sounds amazing (there is a dim sum place right on campus!). We both are going to eat so much lol. And the subway system there is super efficient and cheap, so even though we're not living close to Downtown, we'll still be able to visit lots!
So yeah. I have A LOT to look forward to. I really cannot wait to get out of Waterloo (sorry, Waterloo!) and get onto this adventureeeeee!
Anyways, it's getting late so it's sleep time for me. I should really get back to a normal sleeping schedule now that most of my exams are done....
Goodnight!!

Clear Water Bay

Isn't this beautiful...

This is where I will be next term! The HKUST campus is right beside the Clear Water Bay...and look at the view! It's so gorgeous! It beats looking out of the windows at UW campus and seeing a mass of geese poop and gray buildings (no offense UW :P I still love you!).
I am very excited to go. Jordan and I are planning to keep a blog of our adventures for the term! There is not too much going on there right now...just us talking about some of our planning and preparation for our trip :) But soon, it shall be updated with exciting pictures, tales and videos about HONG KONG! WOOO!
